Progress on the Friends' Shelter

We are continuing to make good progress.   The forms were stripped away today and the insulation was placed against the exterior foundation.  The short pillars are for the exterior columns at the covered entrance.   If you look closely you can also see the green sleeve where the plumbing will pass through the wall between the lobby and the hall on its way out to the pump tank which will be at the west end of the building.

The silt fence has been installed and the location for the transformer (northwest edge of the site) has been identified by Alliant.

Progress on the Friends' Shelter
The foundation has been poured.   It will need to cure for several weeks before the backfill.

The Horribly Hilly Hundreds Bike Ride on June 16 was well attended by about a thousand enthusiastic bicyclists.  This event is our largest fund raiser of the year and always fills up.  Thanks  to our ride director Shelby Retzlaff and the work of many dedicated volunteers the day was a great success.  The weather also cooperated!

Blue Mound Trail Run

Saturday, June 2, 2012  18K or 9K

The Blue Mound is as good as it gets for trail running in the Midwest.  The  long event is a significant accomplishment with singletrack sections, switchback climbs and quad quivering descents.  The shorter run will also get you to the top of the Mound with a sampling of many of the same trail running challenges. Your efforts will be rewarded with wholesome food and drink at the finish.  Come and join us and the other wonderful  participants of this event.

Snowshoe Rendezvous

The 2012 Snowshoe Rendezvous was lightly attended due to cancelling and uncancelling and a not really great weather forecast.  It was cold and windy at Brigham Park but once on the trails, it was quite pleasant.  All who attended had a good time.

Snowshoe Hiking Adventures For All
This is a non-competitive event with several different levels of difficulty. We will traverse the wooded and open areas of the beautiful Blue Mounds area. The longer routes will include some interesting ups and downs and trail blazing if conditions permit; expect a challenge if snow conditions are good. We'll see animal tracks and perhaps a winter creature or two.
Location    Meet at Brigham County Park, 3160 County Hwy F, Blue Mounds, WI—about 20 miles west of Madison. Admission to park is free.
Schedule  Meet at 10 AM. After the snowshoe trek we will have cookies, hot drinks and socializing around a campfire. Bring lunch if you like.
Equipment   We will not be able to provide snowshoes. Please bring your own or arrange your own rental. Rentals available in Madison at REI (608-833-6680 ) or Fontana Sports (608-257-5043) or Rutabaga (608-223-9300). Dress in layers for changing conditions and exertion.
Donations appreciated.

Fall Run

Our fall trail run fundraiser at Black Hawk Ridge was a great success in spite of a poor weather forecast.  A little rain fell but the runners' spirits were not dampened.
The wonderful volunteers are what make the event so great!

And the food!
